GM Rod Higgins Q&A | Player Profile

Two weeks ago, I might have had some indigestion about this deal, especially about Stephen Jackson off the court. But right now Coach Larry Brown has needed Rolaids to watch the Bobcats offense. Stephen Jackson was one of only four players in the NBA to average 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists last season. His company in that distinction? Try LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade.

If there is one thing evident about what the Bobcats need at this point, it is scoring. The Bobcats outplayed Portland for most of the night Saturday, but a paltry 36 percent night from the field held them back from claiming a win.

In their current four-game slump, The Bobcats are averaging 80 points per game on .408 shooting (126-309) from the field. Look specifically at the combined shooting stats of the Bobcats guards and it gets worse. The combo of Felton, Augustin, Bell and Murray were 45-142 from the field during this stretch which is a .317 FG%.

Jackson is coming off a 20.7 scoring average from last season. Despite his troubles with Coach Don Nelson in 2009-10, he’s still averaging 16.6 points over nine games. Jackson is an accomplished playmaker, rebounder and has a decent pedigree defensively.

Acie Law was a lottery pick in Atlanta three years ago. He’ll push DJ Augustin to make better use of his minutes. Over the last four, DJ has hit a slump averaging 2.5 points per game and shooting 3-14 from the floor.

You hate to see people like Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic leave. Raja was playing courageously with a left wrist that severely limits any activity to his left side. Vlade’s departure could open more minutes for Nazr Mohammed, who is playing very well this season.

At the end of the day you ask yourself… are you better at shooting guard than you were 24 hours ago? Getting Stephen Jackson in this deal makes for an easy answer.

Good trade. The Bobcats needed a vet that can score. Team leader.
All the Bobats need now is for the center position to step up.

I think we should make another move and it should before point guard delonte west of the cavaliers and give up felton he is a good guy very reliable but I think its time for Charlotte to get rid of players that want big contracts but aren”t living up to the money that they are being offered. Gret move Cats, I do believe that we are a player of two away from being a contender, drawing in fans and making the playoffs, I think as a GM my next move would be Felton, Nazr Mohammad, Ajinca for West, and Varejo

Hate to see raja go. but i live in nor cal and i have gone to alot of warrior games, because i love basketball and the warriors are fun to watch. But im a charlotte fan at heart jack is going to give us a captain an a scorer who can pass and just play the game. We lack scoring we just got it. i was question why we havent made a move to get better. we just need a health tyson and for us to realize he likes the ball above the rim and for our pg’s to start playin better we will be fine lb and mj and rod higgins will right the ship. lets go cats make me happy i got nba league pass

I agree the bobcats got what the needed in a scorer in Jackson but it seems like need another wingman maybe Florent Pietrus, or a trade of Felton when he is availble for a trade to the Magic for Michael Pietrus good defender and above average scorer the trade should go fairly smooth process seeming that Felton isn’t worth the money he wants and we have a big guard in Acie Law and a great backup in Augustin and resigning Murray should be a consideration also. What do you think of this trade?
