So I’m going to Dallas to compete in the 2010 Sprite Slam Dunk Competition. It’s a great honor and a privledge to be able to go down there and represent my family, my teammates and the organization. It’s something I haven’t done in a while, but its an opportunity to open up the youth (vault).

The league contacted me yesterday and I agreed to it, and honestly, I haven’t paid attention to it since the last time I was in it (in 2002). Obviously it’s changed, because when I was in it in my rookie season they had the dunk wheel, so you didn’t get to choose your dunk or create your own dunk. You basically spun the wheel and did dunks from past slam dunk champions. I’m pretty sure it’s different now. I think my favorite dunk contest that I can remember watching was the one that Vince Carter won (in 2000) when he had those amazing dunks. That’s probably the best one that I’ve seen since I’ve been watching.

Right now, I haven’t had much time to think about it, but I don’t have anything spectacular planned. I’m too old for all of the spectacular dunks now. I’ll just try to keep it simple, and the most important part is to just make your dunks. I know that you might need a partner for when I go out there, but I haven’t thought of anything yet. I’m giving it time to sink in, and then I’ll start creating my own dunks. I’m not getting any capes from Dwight (Howard) or anything like that. I’m just going to keep it simple.

I know Shannon Brown is going to be out there, so I don’t know what he’s going to bring. We used to call him the human helicopter here. He has a lot of tricks up is sleeve and is very athletic, so this should be fun to see.

My thing is just to go out, try to do the best I can and enjoy the weekend. I didn’t really have any reservations about going out to do this. I just think that things are going so well with this team, and the recognition and everything will help out. It just gives me the opportunity to go out and enjoy myself.

If this helped lead to an All-Star selection, I would love it. Do I hope for it? Yes, I’d love to be on the team, but right now I’m just focusing on our team and the growth that we’re experiencing as a team here.
