Wallace overjoyed to be Bobcats first All-Star

Wallace named as All-Star reserve
First of all I just want to express how thankful I am to be selected. This is a great accomplishment for me and the entire Bobcats organization. This was one of my personal goals and I never could have got here without the help of my teammates and (Head) Coach (Larry) Brown mentoring me and strengthening my abilities. I’m just thankful for this opportunity.
I pretty much found out right before the plane took off (for Golden State). My plans are basically just to have fun and enjoy it as much as I can. This is my first opportunity as a participant in the game, and I just want to go out and enjoy my time there.
The coaches called me and my agent called me. (Earlier than today) I kind of figured when I talked to my agent that I was going to make it, but he wasn’t sure. It was one of those times where I didn’t really want to know anything before the announcement because I didn’t want to get my hopes up only to be crushed. When I found out, I actually felt kind of relieved, but I felt great too. Like I said, this was one of my personal goals, but at the same time, I’d rather make the playoffs. I’m hoping this is just the start, because what I really want is to finish this season in the playoffs.
Before I was picked for the slam dunk competition, I told my agent that I wanted to do whatever it took to be a part of this All-Star weekend. I think it is going to be a historical one, being that it’s in Dallas and the expected crowd is supposed to be huge. I wanted to be in it, and I told him that if I couldn’t make the game, then to sign me up for the slam dunk contest. My family and my friends all said, “Don’t you think you’re a little too old for that?” But I just wanted to go out have fun and be a part of it in some way, and now I’m going to.
The slam dunk contest is second in my mind right now. I’m so nervous about the All-Star Game that I can’t even think about the dunk competition right now. I think by the time I get there, it’s not going to be about winning. It’s just going to be about making my dunks and not embarrassing myself.
My teammates were great. They were excited, and all of these guys know what this game is about and really wanted me to get on there. I think everyone is excited, and I do know that some guys have been joking with me about getting their cut – but everyone’s been great. I think half of my family is already booked to go down there. They were excited about me being in the slam dunk contest and hopeful about me getting into the All-Star Game, so it’s going to be important for me to share this with my immediate family, and especially my brother – because this is really exciting for him. I’m not sure if my mom is going to be able to make it, but I’m going to take my kids and let them enjoy it as much as I am.
The fans here were great, too. The entire city of Charlotte really seemed to be getting behind me, and I thank them for that and everything they’ve done for me and help me accomplish that goal of mine.
I also heard that Charles (Barkley), Kenny (Smith) and the guys at TNT were excited for me and thought it was really deserved and that means a lot that guys like that appreciate what I do to go out every night and try to help my team win. It’s also means a lot that the coaches were the ones to vote me in. I think they see a lot more than what some of the fans might see behind the scenes. They see guys playing who are beat up or injured, but going out and fighting every night while trying to help their team win. It’s not always about scoring, but about doing all of the things that can make you a great player, and I think the coaches recognize that coming from the position that they’re in.
I think this selection does it a lot, not only for the team, but for the organization as a whole and the city as well. Hopefully now they’ll put us on TV a little bit more, who knows? But to acknowledge that we’re one of the contending teams and give me the opportunity to represent this organization and this city in the All-Star game is great. I’m not sure if Dwyane Wade is going to take No. 3 or not, but I don’t care – they can give me any number they want.

Congrats man! We at Bobcatsplanet.com are huge fans and voted numerous times to get you in. Sadly we didn’t get you in that persepective, but we definitely tried our best. You were recently voted as the boards favorite all-time Bobcat and have a huge following. Each and everyone one of us are so proud of you and happy for you. I know it had to be a wonderful feeling. So congrats on becoming the first Bobcat to get into the all-star game!
Your not old. I saw your dunks before. It is about the same but much refine and careful now.
We the fans wants to know what you’ve got. So please do not make it “simple” but show us your bag of tricks. Showmanship is the main thing about this event. Give everything you’ve got as if it is your last day of dunking.
For the all star please use the same approach, make it as if it is your last.
Redirect your anxious energies for the preparation.
“Be prepared to fail if you fail to prepare.”
We the fans are very proud of you. Congratulations and More Power!
Congrats Gerald, all that hustle & hard work has come to fruition in your selection as an all-star. Its been a long time coming for some recognition fan wise for your skills. Not making the All-defensive team when you averaged 2 & 2 was the biggest debacle in award history EVER.
Have fun All-Star weekend, & on Saturday night remember……a dunk from the free-throw line is a guaranteed 50!
Congratulations Gerald!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
because you is deserve it!!!!!!!!
This is thing that you really deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now, after you selected to the SDC and AllStar Game, you must show them that their choice was right!!! I want to see you in every AllStar game that you can be in to the end of your career
I’m so happy too!!!!
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very happy for Gerald Wallace – I have been to several game and he is a great player and a team player. I am happy that the Bobcats have him. Good Luck and many more success for you to come
All Bobcats fans are deligthed by the All-Star selection, where our own guy made it, well deserved.
In basketball forums fans won’t use name Gerald or Wallace, but Crash instead. Lately, we have been using All-Star. Gerald “All-Star” Wallace.
Despite the fact Knicks didn’t help us to hunt that 5th seed and Toronto won a game, news about All-Star reserves were much greater. It’s a GREAT day for us and I don’t know anyone else, who earns that spot more than You, ALL-STAR!
G,,,,,,,,,,,words can not expalin how happy I am for you. After watching you play here in Charlotte for the last six years, it’s about time your hard work, deciation and efforts on the floor are acknowledged. In my opinion, there is no one else in the league that puts forth the effort you do on a nightly basis; you NEVER take a night or a play off. I am anxious and excited to see you take the floor in your All-Star uniform. Maybe now you will get the respect you have deserved from the officials and they won’t allow you to get as beat up as they have these last six years. All the Best to you and the Family,,,,enjoy the experience! T
“Students of the game that didn’t have a clue, became All Stars, Gerald Wallace is due” I wrote those lyrics right on time!!
Congrats G-Force! Well deserved. Have fun in Dallas and rep the Bobcats to the FULLEST!
congrats Gerald you deserve it!!! represent us well at All-Star weekend!
Congrats on the selection, your hard works have paid off.
congrats to Gerald and the bobcats. People outside NC will finally get to see what the bobcats are all about thanks to Gerald
I am very excited for Gerald Wallace and feel like he really deserved his spot on the All-Star Team! I have been a Bobcats season ticket holder for years and have seen how he plays so hard at 100% every season, every game, even when he’s injured. He’s finally getting the credit he deserves! Enjoy every minute!! And looking forward to seeing you in the playoffs!
Well deserved Mr Wallace…Well deserved. It’s about time that the country begins to realize the same thing. Congrats…
Wow!
I must say you are finally getting the recognition you deserve. I’m so happy for you, myself, the fans, coach brown and everyone else who gets to whitness this!
I’ve followed the Bobcats all the way from Norway the last few years, sitting up all night watching the games online! The way you have been playing, being a leader, fighting and hustling, you should have been in the all star game already a couple of years ago. At least in my opinion!
I see that now that the bobcats are doing so good, the players also gets more attention, and thats probably why you havent been in the all star game yet! But i think this year, with jax and you together, Ray at the point and everyone on your roster, You can make it to the playoffs and hopefully go all the way (wich I think you can if you guys play your hardest and everyone is fokused!)
The good thing about you making it to the playoffs this year, is that nobody really expects you to do anything spectacular, and ignorant fans of powerhouse clubs wouldnt give you a chance to win a game in the series even! And thats why you are going to have the upperhand if you make it. We all know you can beat the best teams out there, youve already prooved it! Suns, Heat, Lakers (last year), Cavs, Nuggets and so on!
I hope for a great season forward and I’m thinkin you WILL make the playoffs the way you are playing right now!
You have all the cats fan’s support in both the dunk contest and the allstar game (and ofcourse in every game)
And you shoudnt hold back in either! You are one of the best dunkers in the league and we who know your game, know that you can dunk on anyone on the West team so go out there and show em!
You should win the dunk contest man, dont hold back!
Btw, Norway has ur back man! go crush the western team
This is why we LOVE Gerald Wallace. Humble and hungry and a class act. My favorite athlete in sports. Go get em Crash!
Congratulations! Big G. It’s long overdue; I get to watch alot of your games for the last 3 seasons through the NBA league pass; and I’m happy to see you and your team in a position to make some noise in the playoffs. Man live it up, go back to the high school days in Dallas and just play the game you love; don’t stress on the dunks; they will come to you! I came to Atlanta last week to see you guys, I plan to come back in March but I want to see a W. Your homey Dee Duncan
Congrats from us in Section 101! You so richly deserve the honor of representing our Bobcats and our city in Dallas. We can’t wait to see you and your family having fun. It all makes us proud. We recognize your efforts in bringing your game every single night. Thanks, Gerald!!!
Congratulations for being picked! Charlotte will finally see how exciting it is to see you play and come out to support a team that’s being coached to go to the playoffs. I know you will lead the team to the playoffs as your heart and dedication to winning each game is always apparent. You really earned this, and I hope you have lots of fun in Dallas.
Go Crash!!!! You deserve it man!!!!
He should be one of the favorites to win the slam dunk contest, especially with some of his latest dunks against phoenix. etc Miguel Toral
I’m really happy for GW. He plays hard on both ends of the court and he should be an allstar, but somebody please tell me why stephen jackson is not an allstar…The bobcats would not have the few fans they have if not for Jack. He has made everybody on this better in every way possible and they turn around and do him like this? the nba stinks…period
Gerald, you are awesome! The fans in Dallas will enjoy watching you as much as we do here in Charlotte. Congratulations – and have a lot of fun with this special moment!
I’ve watched you since Charlotte Bobcats started and I am really happy that you finally made it… Hope the cats can make it deep into the playoffs! Congratulations!
CRASH!!!!
Man, I love your game dog. You are one of the few players in the league I like watching. I like the fact that you never take a play off and give 120% all the time. In a league that has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, you really are what is right with the NBA today. Can’t wait for the playoffs either, I smell second round…at the very least!
Tear em up in the Dunk Contest too!
Congratulations Gerald!!! Respect from Russia
And lets rock on all star game!
Good luck in u life…
Congrats Gerald! And Can’t Wait For The Dunk Contest! Surprise Us All! And Take Home The Trophy For Charlotte.
Congratulations Gerald!! You are an awesome role model to my girls (any child for that matter), we come to all your games to watch and support you and the team.
We love you #3!! Let’s go Cats!!
GW! Do you hear what crowd are screaming? They want to see your creativity! But not just it, they want to see you as a SDC Champion. If you can win, so why not?!
I hope you will make THE SHOW there!
