Coach K on Gerald Wallace

Being selected for Team USA is a great accomplishment for me and truly something special. It gives me an opportunity to represent my country. You know… I’m speechless. I don’t know what you can say. It’s an amazing accomplishment and its something that I think every player dreams of doing – one day putting on the USA Basketball jersey.

It was complete surprise to me to be selected. But like I’ve said before, I motivated myself in the summer time and I think I’ve worked hard this season and since then everything has fallen into place. Its one of those things that’s a true statement that all the hard work eventually pays off for you in the long run. I think things are starting to pay off for me now. I hope it continues to build. My next push would be to get us into the playoffs and then continue to grow from there. I’m happy with my accomplishments, but it shows me what hard work will do, and I think now it’s just going to push me to work even harder to get to the next level.

Some people might ask me what is more important to me – making the All-Star Team for the first time or being selected for Team USA, but I’m not measuring any of these accomplishments against each other. I’m taking all of these in stride and putting them all up there on the same pedestal. Maybe a couple years down the road you might ask me and I can tell you “this is my such-and-such all-star appearance and it does kind of feel the same,” but now all this is a new experience for me, so all of it is pretty much on the same level and all of it is just a great experience for me.

I’m not sure what my chances will be to play for Team USA in the Olympics, but even having the opportunity to make the 12-man roster is still a great experience to go out and participate and be a part of it. So my main thing is just being supportive of it and being there for my country.

When they hand me that Team USA jersey, it’s going to feel amazing. There’s not much I can say after that, but hopefully I’ll make the 12-man roster.

As far as this upcoming weekend, I’ve been asked if I’m nervous for the dunk contest. Honestly, I’m not. I think the dunk contest is the dunk contest. I’ve been dunking since who knows when, so I think the main thing about that is to go out and make your dunks. Flip (Murray) is going to be there with me, and he’s pulling a couple tricks out of his bag, so hopefully we can come up with something and it works.

I think my nerves are going to really build up going into All-Star Sunday. I’m already nervous about that and don’t really know what to expect, so we’ll see how it goes. I think once the game starts, it’s going to be more about fun and enjoying it for me – just the whole experience. You only get to make it your first time once, so it’s something to cherish – just live it up and experience the whole atmosphere, and that’s what I hope to do.

Gerald Wallace is the best player in the NBA!!!! and I hope after the Slam Dunk contest they make a G-Force (GW3) basketball shoe. I dont know why you can buy a panther’s jersey and all panthers things everywhere and not Bobcats stuff they need to Market Bobcats stuff in all the main dept stores and the mall etc… it was very hard to find a Wallace jersey. They should be everywere. Gerald if they wont do it, you should promote your self.
