Vote Gerald Wallace into the 2010 All-Star Game

Everybody is talking about what I’m doing on the boards right now (leading the league with an average of 13.8 rebounds), but I’m just trying to do some things to help my team. Right now I’m not as comfortable on the offensive end as I’ve been in the past, so I feel like I have to find other ways to try and help my team win. Right now, we had a horrible time rebounding in the preseason, so I think that’s why it was one of the things I really wanted to focus on this season.

There really is no key to getting rebounds. It’s a matter of how much heart you have going after it. You have to want it. You have to want that ball. You have to be able to go ahead and get it. You have to be able to get down in the paint and fight for it. But don’t get me wrong, it takes a little luck sometimes too.

It’s funny though, because the guys on the team kind of get mad at me when I don’t get at least 10 now. They’re expecting me to get that many rebounds now, so my main thing is to try to go out there and do as much as I can right now.

I know my offensive game is going to come around. It’s been a big issue and kind of had me down the first couple of games, but like my coaches said, I just had to let it go, get back in the flow, keep doing what I’m doing and eventually it will come. Until then, I’ll just keep pounding the boards. I don’t know if there’s really anything to do to jumpstart it. I just think it will take time. Hopefully it will be here tonight (against Orlando).

We continue to be pretty solid here at home, and that’s one of the main parts if you want to be a team that’s in playoff contention. You have to take care of your home games and try to steal some on the road. I think we’ve done a good job of protecting our house so far.

Speaking of houses, my Patriots have a big matchup away from home in Indianapolis this Sunday night, but I think we’ll be okay. I think Tom Brady is kind of motivated. I think Joey Porter (of the Dolphins) motivated him last week with all his trash talking, so I hope he keeps it going. His confidence is up, he’s locked in, and he and (Randy) Moss are starting to get that 1-2 combination back, so I think we’ll be okay. We might be taking on an undefeated team on its home field, but you have to remember this – the Colts fear us more than we fear the Colts. I think that gives us the advantage.

Thanks for sharing your insight Gerald. I saw you play in person once, at the ABCD Camp in New Jersey when you were a high school senior. Your tenacity impressed me back then so it doesn’t surprise me that you’re leading the league in rebounds.

    I wish you the best!

just keep up the good work gerald …….. if Raymond can start lighting it up every game like he did against Orlando tonight, you’ll get some easy points. teams know that they need to lock you down. your leadership is really showing this year, with you changing your game around a little for the benefit of the team. i think its about time you got what you deserve come all-star weekend. you got my vote.

    Hey there G,
Wow you have come a long way from your rookie season in Sacramento, I still say you were robbed in the dunk contest. LOL
I’m glad to see you are on the ballot for All star selection this year, fingers crossed it’s your time to shine.
I think it would be phenomenal if you could lead the league in rebounds, you do so much on the court and your stats are so wide spread from week to week I’m surprised you dont get more notoriety but maybe the blog will help with that.
By the way I am always amazed about the similarities in your game between you and Latrell Sprewell, there is not much that separates you as far as height and build but I understand you both went to the same school. Was wondering if you have patterned your game after his or if he was in any way an influence on you growing up?
    Thoughts?

Gerald you are an outstanding player, that can do it all on the court. I wish I could see you play, but I do listen to the games on NBA audio league pass. You are my favortie player so please keep crashing the boards for me. And rember this, THERE IS NO POWER FOWARD IN THE LEAGUE THAT CAN STOP YOU FROM MAKING IT TO THE BASKET, so when the second string come in take over.
